With a slightly spicy, camphorous scent, Kunzea oil is a gentle cousin to the Tea Tree plant and both have similar properties.

100% Kunzea ambigua pure essential oil grown and harvested in Tasmania, Australia.

How To Use:

Diffuser: Add 6-8 drops of your Kunzea essential oil to a diffuser.

Quick fix: A few deep inhalations from the bottle can help when you are at work, in the car or anytime you need a quick break.

Bath: Add up to 5 drops in a dispersant such as oil, to the bath.

Massage: Use a 2.5% dilution; 15 drops per 30ml carrier oil.

Hand or foot bath: Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of water for nail infection and the relief of arthritic pain.

Compress: Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of water. For treating inflammation or to cool down use cold to room temperature water. For aching tight muscles use warm to hot water. Agitate a face washer in the water, wring out excess moisture and apply washer to the affected area. Repeat two or three times as the compress cools down or warms up.

Steam Treatment: Add 2 drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming hot water. Place your face close to the bowl and cover the back of your head and bowl with a towel to trap the aromatic vapours. Caution due to risk of burns or scalding and keep eyes covered during treatment.

History:

It is thought the first recount of Kunzea essential oil was in the late 1700’s and was known as “White Cloud”. Kunzea essential oil is a gentle cousin to the Tea Tree plant and both have similar properties. It is refreshing and uplifting to the spirits yet calming and comforting at the same time. 

The plant regrows every year and once an old Kunzea brush is brought down, the ground springs to life with new plants. The plant absorbs the sunlight and moisture which helps enhance and continue growth.

Harvesting:

All across the brisk Tasmanian state, the luscious green properties may look as if they have been touched gently by light snow. Kunzea is considered a weed or pest for most farmers so when it was first offered that it could be harvested, locals found it strange. The Kunzea plant is traditionally a very low yielding plant with an average harvesting bin of 5 cubic metres giving about 4 to 5 kilos of oil. When the brush is too tall for the usual tractor harvester, a skid steer is used. A propagation house is used for growing seedlings which has been planted close to the distillery.

Distillation:

After harvesting the biomass, the bins are then driven back to the still and steam distilled. In steam distillation, the biomass is directly contacted with steam. Steam generated in a boiler is passed through the bed, so that the essential oil in biomass is leached out to the steam.

Community & Environment:

The region has around 800 residents who harvest the oil in the wild which can be 45 to 50 kilometres from the still. The distillation process uses water from the spring which runs underground and on top of the still-house. In the future, they plan to use the waste oil for running the boilers, and currently all the biomass leftover after distilling is used by the locals as mulch for gardens and to cover their seedlings.

FAQs:

Is this safe for use during pregnancy? Use this oil with care, best used in a diffuser or diluted with a carrier oil (1% ratio). Avoid using essential oils during the first trimester unless you are under the supervision of a qualified practitioner.

Is this safe for children? Essential oils are considered too strong for use on babies’ skin (0-24 months) and can be overwhelming on their developing systems. When using in a diffuser, use fewer drops then that for an adult (eg. 2-3 drops).

Is this safe to use around pets? This essential oil is not recommended for use around pets.

Can I ingest this oil? Essential oils should not be taken internally unless you have consulted with a health professional or Aromatherapist first.
